What are the components of a car braking system
2026-03-13
The braking system of a car mainly consists of the following parts:
1. Brake pedal: The driver sends a deceleration signal to the engine control unit (ECU) by operating the brake pedal.
2. Master cylinder: receives the force of the brake pedal and transmits it to the brake fluid.
3. Brake fluid: It plays a role in transmitting force in the braking system, transferring the force of the master cylinder to the brakes of the wheels.
4. Brake booster: If equipped with a brake booster, it can increase the force applied by the driver on the brake pedal, thereby reducing the driver's pedal pressure.
5. Brake pads/brake pads: Fixed on the brakes of the wheels, they come into contact with the brake disc or brake drum to generate friction, thereby reducing the speed of the vehicle.
6. Brake disc: Installed on the wheels, in contact with the brake pads or brake shoes, it bears friction and slows down the vehicle.
7. Brake hoses and pipelines: Connect various components of the brake system to allow brake fluid to flow through the system.
8. Brake pad wear sensor: used to monitor the degree of brake pad wear. When the brake pad wear reaches a certain level, it will issue a warning to the driver.
9. Brake fluid level sensor: used to monitor the position of brake fluid and ensure that the brake system has sufficient brake fluid.
10. Electronic Stability Control (ESC): In some advanced vehicles, ESC can monitor the vehicle's driving status and automatically adjust the braking system as needed to maintain vehicle stability.
